I have a heavy wrist.
I twisted the throttle to the stop early this morning around 2am while leaving my night shift at the jet factory, Learjet, here in Tucson.
Within a quarter mile from the driveway I had it up to 77mph.
Damn, wouldn't you know it...
there they were, in the bushes, about 15 ft. off the highway...a couple of reservation police...
Lights...action...here they come...
Him: "Do you know how fast you were going?"
Him: "How fast?"
Me: "65?" (read:yeah, right..Bill)
Him: "Got you clocked and locked at 77. License and registration? Okay, sit tight..."
He came back after two minutes.
Him: "You know this is a criminal offense, you were WAY over...?"
Me: "Yeah, you got me...fair and square..."
Him: "I'm going to do you a favor...a big favor." As he handed me my papers.
Me: "What do you mean...what am I getting?
Him: "Nothing...just remember...this is my shift...and my beat...just take it easy out here, okay?"
Me: "You're kidding...(long pause)...THANKS!"
Him: "Get outta here."
The Tohono O'odham Police have got to be a great group of officers!
